Tuesday`s Premier Division South Round-Up

It’s as you were at the top of the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South table after wins for the top three on Tuesday night.

Truro march on

Truro City maintained their one-point advantage over Weston-super-Mare after a good 3-0 win at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium against mid-table Salisbury.

The White Tigers hit the hosts with a two-goal burst in 7 minutes midway through the first half from Dan Sullivan and then Tyler Harvey.

And they completed victory in front of 511 when home `keeper Ged Benfield punched the ball straight to Ben Adelsbury who fired it straight back past him to make it 3-0.

Weston took on second-from-bottom North Leigh at the Optima Stadium and matched Truro with a 3-0 victory.

It took only 4 minutes for the Seagulls to take the lead with a Scott Laird header.

North Leigh’s keeper Adam North was then stunned in the 18th minute when he saw Lloyd Humphries fire a 40-yard effort over him to double the home side’s lead.

The crowd of 781 had to wait until the 78th minute for a third goal to arrive, and it was courtesy of another Laird header.

Chesham United maintained third place, four points behind Weston, after they edged out Metropolitan Police by the odd goal in five at The Meadow.

The Generals went ahead after 10 minutes when the referee spotted a handball in the area and Karl Oliyide duly converted the resulting penalty.

The home side made it 2-0 with a very tidy finish from Ricardo German.

Two-nil leads at half-time can often prove tricky and the next goal is always crucial.

And it was the Met who got themselves back into the game on 56 minutes when Archy Taylor got the better of Chesham `keeper Sam Beasant on a one-on-one.

The visitors pulled back on level terms after 68 minutes when a shot took a wicked deflection off Frankie Sutherland to divert the ball past Beasant.

Despite the Met having the momentum, it was Chesham who scored what proved to be the winner on 74 minutes when Kaine Sinclair headed past Liam Beach.

Fourth-placed Poole Town were held to a 1-1 draw at the SKYex Community Stadium by a now seventh-placed Hayes & Yeading United.

The visitors took a 21st-minute lead with a low drive from Toby Holmes past Rhys Byrne.

The hosts equalised in the 56th minute when Mo Bettamer headed firmly past Luke Cairney.

But that proved to be the Poole goalkeeper’s last piece of action as, on the hour-mark, a fracas after the goal finished up with him and Hayes & Yeading’s Adam Liddle both being red-carded.

British Virgin Islands international Will Butler came on to replace Cairney.

And Butler proved to be the hero in the end as he pulled off a brilliant save from a Bettamer free-kick 3 minutes from time!

Dorchester Town moved up to eighth place in the table after winning 3-1 at the Met Coaches Stadium against another of the league’s Emirates FA Cup heroes, Merthyr Town.

A crowd of 529 saw the Magpies, who picked up an away point at Gosport Borough last weekend, take an early 4th-minute lead through Louie Slough.

Then on 24 minutes, Jordan Foot doubled the visitors` advantage.

Dorchester held firm in the second half and then made sure of the points when Matty Neale added a third in the last minute, with Lewis Powell netting a consolation for the Martyrs in stoppage time.

Bottom-markers Hendon enjoyed a crucial second win of the campaign to date, 3-2 at the Memorial Fields against fellow strugglers Hartley Wintney.

And the visitors had to respond to falling behind to an early 3rd minute Paul Hodges goal.

Liam Brooks equalised 15 minutes later and an unfortunate own goal from Richard Jones put Lee Allinson’s side in front on the stroke of half-time.

The visitors made it 3-1 with 72 minutes gone through Rohdell Gordon, but a Kieron Forbes own goal 6 minutes from time led to a nervy finale.

The gap between The Row in 18th and the Greens is now only three points.
